The TJ Maxx Haul Hoax?

TJ Maxx
Thanks to Craig Dietrich of flickr for the photo
Have you seen all the great scrapbook hauls people are getting at TJ Maxx this past week?  They look amazing.  People say just keep going back you will find the supplies, but will you?  Maybe not if you live in south Florida.

After seeing all the great scrapbook hauls we had to check out  TJ Maxx.  We went to a TJ Maxx a little over a week ago.  They had no scrapbook supplies to speak of.  Since then we have gone to 5 other local TJ Maxx stores in three different towns.  None of them had more then a few of the same old supplies that have been at those stores for over a month.

I know the TJ Maxx haul videos are not hoaxes.  I was only joking about that, but part of me really does wonder if any of those great supplies in the videos made it to south Florida.

Tired of driving around only to be disappointed.  Check out our online store for great scrapbook deals 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

How to Tie Your Strings On The Back

Yesterday, I showed a how to video on sewing a photo mat.  However, it was next to impossible to see how I got the strings on the back of the mat in that video.  That's why I made this brand new video showing how to get the strings on the back of the paper.

I hope this helps.

Have a great day and happy scrapbooking.

How to sew a Photo Mat

This isn't a perfectly sewn photo mat,  I almost didn't even post the video because I was ashamed of my craftsmanship, but it does do a good job of explaining how to sew a photo mat.  I see so many sewn mats online with badly made corners or loose strings on top of the mat.  I explain in this video how to avoid those things.  I know that it's very hard to see how I get the strings on the back of the mat.  I'm going to make a new video using white paper and better lighting to show exactly how to do these knots.

If you have any questions about this video or anything else or have have video subject request just let us know.

I hope you have a great day.

Return of the Pineapple Scrapbook Layout

Way back on November 25, 2012 I made a blog post showing a scrapbook layout we made on a baby pineapple I was growing.

Growing pineapples is a labor of love.  You get one fruit per year per plant if you are lucky and each pineapple can take up to 6 months to mature.  So when I get a pineapple we often scrapbook it.

Today I got a very happy surprise when I walked by my plants I saw I had 4 plants with pineapples.

Here is a sneak peak of a likely future scrapbook layout photo.

First Day Scrapbook Layout

Can you say layers?  This scrapbook layout is just covered in layers.  The paper we used for the base is printed to look like 4 papers layered ontop of each other.  In the thickest spot this layout is 9 layers thick incluiding chipboard.

I run the web store and blog  full time.  Susy on the other hand helps out with the store some during her free time, but has a full time job.

This layout is from a moment I was very proud of Susy.  It's from her first day after she got a promotion at her job and became a manager of over 20 people.

The tags including a to do list and a label that reads "it always seems impossible until it is done!"

Susy made this layout of her mom at Christmas time.  Her mom had put a ribbon from one of the presents on her head.

My favorite thing about this layout is all the layers, but I also like the thread that Susy weaved through the punched border.

P.S. You may have noticed a layout on the blog for a few hours yesterday.  I pulled it because Susy wanted to enter it in a contest.

Ho Ho Ho Scrapbook Layout

This is a Christmas scrapbook layout we made of our cat Pookie.  You can tell in this layout that he had a great Christmas.   He loved all his food and toys but his favorite thing was the ribbon I had wrapped one of Susy's gifts with.

Prineess Scrapbook Layout

Princess Scrapbook Layout

This is a layout of our niece Bella.  Bella and her family (my sister her husband and their other kids) came to Florida to visit us this past summer.    Bell will tell you that she is the only Princess and is diffidently a girly girly.    She loves Hello Kitty so got a big kick out of the Hello Kitty store at our mall.

It's a cute layout that I think is very Bella.  The most interesting thing about this layout is that Susy actually hand cut out each of those butterflies.  Out of the countless punches we have they are almost all borders.  This means when we want something like butterflies on a layout Susy ends up having to cut them out by hand.

I really like this layout of Susy and her Mom.  One of my favorite parts of the layout is the blue wooden camera with the flower in the center.  I also like all the shinny dots.  Then again readers of this blog know well my love all of things shinny.  Susy no doubt would tell you the pennant banner is her favorite part.  In the end we all have different things we love in a layout I guess.

We made several other layouts during the time I was not blogging because our recent store update that I will be posting photos of for the next few days.

Hand Made Valentine's Day Card

Today I'm going to show you a Valentine's card for my wife, Susy.  I hope you like and that she loves it.  I'm somewhat of a novice at card making.  However, I feel like I get better every time I make one.  It uses a lot of pop dots that look great on the card but are hard to see in the pictures.  Click on any picture to enlarge.

Now I'm going to do my best to explain how I made this card.  It took me several hours to finish.  After thinking for some time over what kind of like my card should have I couldn't come up with any idea I liked.  Eventually I gave up and started looking at all our stamps for inspiration.  When I saw this monkey and tiger stamp I could just see them kissing and the idea was born.  Quickly I went threw my personal scrapbook papers and found ones I liked for this theme.

I looked for our ink, but Susy had it under a pile of papers so I couldn't find it.  I used distress ink form Tim Holtz.  Anyone who has used this ink knows it does not give you a clear stamp image by design.  I then went back in with ink pins and filled in the spots that the stamps left out so I would have a clear image. I colored in the stamps with colored pencils and ink pens and then fussy cut them out.

Next I cut four 1 1/2 inch borders out of shinny blue cardstock(blue is Susy's favorite color).  I punched those borders to make the a little more refined.  Then I took out our sewing machine and sewed the 4 borders together to make a frame.  I used Tim Holtz black soot distress ink to grudge it up.  I also punched 4 corners that I grudged up and placed over the corners of the frame with pop dots to cover the spots where the borders overlap.

I cut the paper with the flowers on it to the size of the frame and put it under the frame using pop dots.

Then I ran my two stamped imaged threw a Xyron sticker machine and put them on the background.

You may recognize the white flower on the front of the card from a paper quelling post that I made several blog post back.

Working on Valentine's Day Card
On the inside of the card I really like the look with the middle paper being different.  However, this was a mistake.  The front of the card is 7x7, but I don't have any papers bigger then 12x12.  So to make a paper that that is 14 inches long I was going to have to glue 2 or more papers together.  The cool border at the at the top came about much the same way when I cut the inside papers slightly two short and needed something on top of them to make the inside panels slightly taller.  I grudged up that border with the Tim Holtz black soot ink.

The heart I drew myself and then cut out.  I used a paper distressing tool on the edges of the heart and added Tim Holtz broken china ink to it.  I wrote my note on the pink vellum on the right side but took this pictures before writing the note since that's a personal thing between my wife and I.

The back panel is the same paper that I used on the cover of the card.  I stamped it with a flowers label and dated the card.

I'm not great at walkthroughs and clearly didn't take enough pictures, but I hope if anyone wants to replicate this card they are able to

P.S.  I don't know the name of any of the papers because the there names were cut off long ago.  The cardstock is from Coredonations.

We are Open!

I have been working so hard for weeks now to rebuild our store.  A little picture could never do it justice, so stop on by and tell me what you think of the new look.
Starting tomorrow I will be adding brand new items to the store.  Readers of our blog know that I remade the store so that I could add those extra products.  I'm also very excited that I will once again have time to write daily blog post.  There are just so many things I want to write about.

Until we all wake up in the morning I wish you all happy scrapbooking.  Thanks so much for fallowing our blog and sticking with us
