How to Make a Cool Scrapbook Accessory

This accessory is part of card that I made to give Susy for our 10 year anniversary.  I did two techniques for the first time on this card, so I'm going to break the card down into 3 post.  The first two will explain how I made parts of it and the finial post will be the reveal.

Without further adieu, here is what I'm going to explain how to make today.
cool scrapbook accessory

First I punched 2 12 inch long strips of paper using a Martha Stewart punch.

Next I folded the paper strips back and forth along the punched design and glued the two 12 inch strips together into one circle.

Then I stitched along the inside edge of the circle and pulled the thread tight to create my accessory.

The last step is covering the center of the accessory.  I punched, stamped, colored, and heat embossed my center paper to create my heart with a key on it.

I'm sure there is an easier way to make this accessory.  I made up this technique to use on this card.

In tomorrows post I'm going to show you the tried and true technique of masking with stamps.  I know most of you already know how to do this.  I've seen it done at shows for years, but I've never done it myself until now.  Being it's my personal first time I wanted to make a post on it.

I hope you enjoyed the sneak peak of my card.  I'm looking forward to showing off the completed project.

Need a little Help Picking Anniversary Gift

Need a little help picking anniversary gift.

Susy and I our having our 10th anniversary on April 2nd.  We follow traditional gift guide lines so it should be something made of aluminum or tin.
10th Anniversary

We haven't talked about it but we usually set a $50 maximum so it can't be anything too expensive.

It also has to be smallish, because I have to be able to hide it in a suitcase and take it to NYC with us for our anniversary trip.

I was thinking maybe something to do with scrapbooking.  Susy loves almost anything to do with scrapbooking, so it's hard to go wrong there.

I had also thought about getting some cute containers of some sort because she loves containers.

Do you have any ideas?

I love homegrown tomatoes and this mortgage lifter heirloom tomato actually tasted even better than it looks in the photo.  If you grow your own tomatoes I would highly recommend this variety I have grown several types and this one tasted the best so far.  It had the perfect flesh to juice ratio and a wonderfully rich sweet tomato flavor.

P.S.  I'm including the actual photo of the tomato because it didn't photograph well in in the layout.  :P

This is the finial project that I'm going to make out of a scrap paper that Susy gave me.

I made this card using the orange section of the paper.  This was my favorite section of this scrap and  I wanted to make something cool with it.

After cutting it out and looking at it for a minute or two fairies making the flowers bloom in spring came to mind.  I grabbed a fairy stamp and stamped her in pink.

Next I took my multi liner pen and outlined the fairy along with the flowers.  Then I sprayed the entire scrap with brown ink to fill in the white areas.  Last, but not least I stamped Believe "in" Magic and added a few flowers.

I stamped the inside fairy twice because the first time didn't work.  I didn't line up the two fairies perfectly, but it turned out to be a happy accident because she looks like shes moving now.

Love Tag

I made this tag from the same scrap paper that I used for yesterdays post.  This time I used the red flower.

I'm a hopeless romantic and love all things hearts and love related.

I had to turn the red flower into something love related.

First I cut out 2 hearts from my scrap pile.  I outlined them with my multi liner so that they would pop and glued them to the flower.  I stamped love under the flower to complete my love theme and cut it all out into the shape of a tag.  I added the paper eyelet using the same scrap paper I made the hearts out of and the Tim Holtz Tiny Tabs and Tags Die Cut.  I added more hearts to the eyelet with an ink pen.

I hope you like my tag and that it inspires you to create something with what you thought was trash at first sight.

All Natural Beauty Tag

spray ink scrap paper

Remember those flowers in yesterdays layout?  Susy sprayed all those different colors.  The moment I saw the scrap paper she was using when she sprayed them I knew I wanted it and asked her for it.  I know Susy has to find me silly but I can find beauty in what she saw is trash and saw that potential in this scrap paper.

After Cutting out the green flower on the top left of the paper I sprayed it with some brown ink to fill in the
white areas and make the big brown spot above the flower less obvious.

Next, I took a fawn that I made in post a long time ago and glued it to the flower.  The colors just reminded me of nature and the fawn seemed like a good choice.  Then I started digging thru our stamps and came across the all Natural Beauty stamp.

I cut the tag out of scrap paper from my stash.  The paper eyelet was cut out of the scrap paper that I used when I sprayed my brown ink using Tim Holtz Tiny Tabs and Tags Die Cut.

Choo Choo Scrapbook Layout

Susy made this layout of the High in the Sky Seuss Trolly Train Ride at Universal Studios Orlando.

This is a fun way to relax a few minutes at park that almost always has no line.  It takes you on a loop thru a few buildings and around the area giving you  birds eye view of the park and some chances to get fun pictures.

Supplies Used:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas Scrapbook Layout

Susy made this layout of our visit to Universal Studios Orlando.  I think it turned out great.

My mom loves How the Grinch Stole Christmas so I couldn't help but think of her and smile when taking these photos.  My photos are almost always bad because I have a hard time smiling on demand.

How to Make a Stamped Wreath Without using a Inkadinkado Stamping Gear

Back in the day I really wanted a Inkadinkado Stamping Gear.

They just looked cool!  Unfortunately, Susy did not agree.  She would have gotten it for me, but I would never spend so much money on a scrappy toy that was only for me.

Then the other day I was thinking and said to myself, why couldn't I use our Martha Stewart circle edge punch to make a wreath using stamps.

To make this project I first put bottom punch plate into the Martha Stewart circle edge punch.  This is the surface you stamp on, so you might want to tape a paper or something over the punch plate to protect it from ink.  (I didn't do this and had no issues, but depending on your paper/ink could get your punch dirty).

I set the punch to make a 6 inch wreath and stamped my first image.  Next I simply turned it one click and made a 2nd stamp.  I repeated this process until completing the wreath.

I hope this idea helps you out.  I love finding out of the box uses for the scrapbook tools I already have.

America the Beautiful Title

Susy and I are planning on going to New York City for our 10 anniversary so I've been feeling a little more patriotic than usual lately.  It's still going to be a few months until we go, but we are both very excited.

I'm sure there will be countless NYC layouts that I get to share with you later this year.  In the mean time Susy is scrapping like crazy trying to catch up on all our backed up photos so that she can scrap our trip pictures right away when we get back.

Today, I have a very simply title I made to share.

America the Beautiful title
To make this title all I did was stamp America the Beautiful onto a cloud paper that I distressed and then glued that to a black paper.  I say all I "all I did" like it was easy.  In reality I really wanted to make this, but the stamp was likely gotten out a $1 bin somewhere and wouldn't work.  After 8 or so failed tries I got a stamp to turn out good enough that I was able to restamp over the same image and get this title tag.

After telling Susy my troubles and showing her what was wrong with this stamp it ended up in the trash.  Anyone who knows me knows that I'm cheap, but quality scrapbook stamps are worth a few extra cents.

I can see you scratching your head now.

What a 4th of July accessory????

I know I'm a little crazy.

I was looking for a project to make for the blog and came across these fireworks stamps.  I just had to use them.

To make the project I stamped the fireworks on the background paper along with the happy 4th title.  Next I restamped the fireworks on white coredinations paper and cut them out.   I couldn't find our stamping paper but the smooth side of coredinations paper worked well. Then I cut them out and used pop dots to place them over the original stamped firework images.

I know I've made this title accessory very early, but I couldn't help myself.

Blast Off Tag

American Eagle Outfitters

I made this blast off tag out of an upcycled garment tag from American Eagle Outfitters.

The tag is made of a thick chipboard type paper that I really like and has a great eyelet in it.

To make my upcycled version I stamped and cut out a rocket then put it over the eagle with pop dots.

I used a blast off stamp to stamp over and hide the "TM" found on the original tag.

Last I punched some clouds out of scrap paper and glued them to the tag.

When I showed Susy she pointed out that because I put the clouds at an angle the rocket is actually headed down not up.  OOPS!  However, I don't think it's to obvious that the rocket is "crashing" and still like it a lot.

New site to watch Scrapbook Videos

Susy watches scrapbooking videos on youtube all the time.

I enjoy watching these videos with her, but we can't watch youtube on our TV.  This left us with no easy way to watch scrapbooking videos together.

The other day I found a free channel on our Roku (a device for streaming internet programing like netflix to your TV) called Vimeo.

Vimeo does not seem to have is many scrapbooking videos is youtube.  However, in my personal opinion they are of a higher quality.  There are many videos from major scrapbooking companies like scrapbook expo.

If you have a Roku I suggest you check out this channel.  So much nicer watching this on a TV than a little computer screen.

Handmade Valentines Day Card

handmade Valentines Day cardI made this Valentines Day Card to give to Susy (my wife).

The background paper is a marbled beige that doesn't really show in the photos.

I really like how the cat turn out.  I colored the cat solid gray and then took my colorless blender and started removing gray in some areas.

Now onto the love story behind the card.

Susy and I came from two different worlds.  I'm a country boy born and raised in rural Kentucky and shes a big city girl who grew up in Miami Fl and Spain.

cat and fish friends
Susy and I will have been married for 10 years on April 2.

Around 14 years ago I met Susy for the first time online.  I had a girlfriend at the time and she had a boyfriend, but I remember how much she impressed me from the first time I talked with her.  I hadn't known her 2 days when when my birthday came along so I was shocked and impressed when birthday card  arrived in my inbox.

We stayed good friends for around a year.  Susy's boyfriend broke up with her.  Months passed and my girlfriend of the time confessed that she was cheating on me.

string card hingeI was of heartbroken and fell into the arms of my best friend Susy for comfort.  It didn't take many weeks of talking all the time before one of us said you know I always thought if had both been single when we met we would have been perfect for each other.  The other quickly seconded the thought and just like that we were now a couple.

I remember telling her I don't think anything will change.  We already spend so much time together and tell each other everything.

Many sleepless nights talking online and on the phone passed and I was to discover how wrong I was.   Things were different.  Susy made me happier than I ever had been in my entire life.

I lived at home at this time and needless to say (in the time period when everyone met online was perceived is a axe killer) it wasn't a relationship my mom approved of.  One night at around 1 am Susy and I were talking and decided we were both done with this long distance thing.  I quickly tossed some things in my car and rolled out of the driveway in the middle of the night.  Basically is a man in his early 20's I ran away from home at least that's how my mom saw it.

I arrived in Florida the next morning and only days latter  proposed.

Mean while her parents didn't even know I existed.  They would have understood how we met less than my mom did so Susy made up a cute story about how I met her in a parking lot and carried in her bags for her.

It's an unconventional love story, but I wouldn't change the tangled path that led me straight to my one and only true love.  I will forever be grateful to be her husband and do my best to be the man she deserves.

I hope you all like the card.  If you don't tell me and I'll make her a new one.  This is the kind of thing I try hard to do right.

Susy made this layout of a very cute Simpsons RV at Universal Orlando.  Unfortunately, the RV was so big
and so many people were walking past it we could not figure out a way to get a good photo of it.

I think they coolest thing about this layout is the butterfly.  It was actually a silver sticker that she colored pink with Copics to match the layout.

I hope you like the layout.

Susy made this layout of the Despicable me ride at Universal Studios Orlando.

She cut out all those very cute polaroid frames using a  die cut.  I actually got in a little trouble with that one because several weeks back I used our die cutting machine wrong and Susy said it was causing her Polaroids to cut incorrectly.  :(

Anyway despite less than perfect frames I think the layout turned out absolutely perfect.

I hope you like it also.

Hello everyone,

I'm sorry that I've been away from the blog for a few days.  I'm glad to be back and have a few new layouts to share over the coming days.

Today, I want to share a very cute Despicable Me Layout that Susy made.

I really like how it turned out and think its a lot of fun.

The pictures are from the Despicable Me ride at Universal Studios Orlando.  I have to say Susy and I both found the ride disappointing, but the building the ride is in is a different story.  All the decorations were very cute.

I hope you like the layout.
