Free biking digi

For today I made a retro style digi of a woman riding a bike with her dog to share with you.  I really like how it turned out and and hope you like it also.  To save the file simply click on it to enlarge and then right click to save.

If you do save this digi you may notice that I actually colored it incorrectly.  There were several days between me making the digi and saving it.  I accidentally colored white space is a massive chain guard.  I think it looks good except for the fact that if you color it how I did it's missing a bottom chain.

I hope you like the digi.  I've very proud of all the digi stamps that I will be giving away this week.

Free Dog Digi

I really like this digi.  That said of all the ones that I'm going to show you over the next few days this is my least favorite.  The lines on the fur are very light so if you color him with a dark marker you will not be able to see them.  To save the digi simply click on it to enlarge and then right click to save

Here is an example I colored.

We will ship your orders the minute we get back

Susy and I are going on a trip to New York City for our 10 year anniversary.  Around the time this appears on our blog we will be on an airplane leaving sunny south Florida for chilly sites of NYC.

flying to nycRegrettably this means that all orders placed at our store before we return on April 5th, will ship out on April 7.

We are sorry for the delay this will cause in shipping your items.  The two of us process and pack every order.

For the people who follow the blog, I have came up with a new way to make digi stamps and made what I consider my best work ever!

These are some truely stunning digi's.

A new one will post every day the entire time we are away.

I look forward to sending out the orders received and reading your comments the moment we get back.

I hope you all have a great week.

See you soon and happy scrapbooking!

Free Rose Digi

I hope you like this free rose digi.  Personally I like it more than most of the digi stamps I have made.

I colored this example of the digi using G05, Y15, E11, E00, and E000 from copic.  These E markers are typically considered skin colors, but I really like them on flowers.

Free Potted Orchid Digi

I know in the past I've done an orchid flower digi and an orchid flower stem digi.  However, my wife pointed out to me that I've never made a digi of an orchid plant.  Now I have.  I hope you like it.  I've almost shown you all the digi stamps that I've made so far now.  I saved this one until now because I love it.  There will be one more new flower digi stamp in tomorrows post.  To save the digi simply click on the image to enlarge and then right click to save.

Free Tropical Flower Digi

This is our latest free digi stamp.  I really like this tropical flower digi.  It's based on a photo I took of a flower that was going in a South Florida tree.  Save the digi by simply clicking to enlarge and then right clicking to save.

I colored an example of the digi to help inspire you.  I used Copic markers Y15, E11, E00, and E000.  I also used EB7 from Spectrum Noir.  I left much of the stamp uncolored for white space.  It looks better than it does in the photo.  I should have used a light or the flash when taking the photo.

Finally here is the actual photo of the flower that I took .  I hope it helps you figure out how you want to color the digi.

Free Wild Flower Digi Stamp

Susy and I are going on a trip for our anniversary soon.  I've been working very hard trying to make digi stamps and other post that I can post date so that you have new things to read even if I do not have time to write.

On that note the other day I went on a walk and took a picture of several flowers that I have turned into digi stamps.  I will be posting a new flower digi stamp every day for the next several days

This is my least favorite of them all.  Trust me they get much better so keep coming back :D

Simply click on the image to enlarge  and then right click to save it.

OK I know this isn't colored very well.  It was colored with Sprectrum Noir markers red, BP4, pink and light pink.  I always have lots of trouble blending with Spectrum Noir.

Samsung Smart Camera WB250F Review

Our old camera

Yes I know that's a very boring title, but I like this camera so much I wanted others to be able to find this review on Google.

Our previous camera was a Cannon  Powershot A2300.  Although for the most part it took good photos outside, it always had trouble in low light conditions.  Trying to take a photo at night even with flash was sure to be a failure.  Once at a friends indoor wedding we didn't have one single photo come out clear.  Still readers of this blog will know that Susy and I are cheap, so we weren't about to run out and buy a new camera.  Then one day while taking scrapbooking photos in the rain our cannon got wet.  Much of the functionality of the camera was lost, but it would take a basic photo.

So why the upgrade now?

Susy and I are soon going to NYC for our anniversary and we wanted a camera that could actually capture the memories we make.

The research

I went online and started researching every camera on the market under $200.  I actually spent more than 15 hours reading every review I could find by both average users of cameras and professional photographers.  The problem was Susy and I wanted a lot of camera for not a lot of money.  It needed to have basically perfect reviews, take clear photos at all times with accurate colors.  We also wanted a camera that recorded in HD video that we could use to make YouTube videos.  Those cameras are few and far between in the under $200 range.

I was starting to feel like I might never find a camera.

Then I finally found the Samsung Smart Camera WB250F.  I just couldn't find bad reviews of this camera and the photos people had taken with it all looked gorgeous.  I even read one review that said they prefered it to their DSLR.

I after visiting the store and buying the camera we couldn't be happier.

My review

My first comment to Susy was "this makes taking photos fun again"

Almost every photo I have taken so far has came out beautifully and the ones that did not were my fault.  The camera has a lot of settings and I still have a lot of learning to do.

  • Clear photos with accurate colors
  • Crystal clear x18 optical zoom
  • Ability to share photos from the camera with family and friends directly from the camera
  • Ability to see what the camera sees and take a photo with it from our phone.  This will be great for taking photos of us together.
  • Ability to take photos at night in near darkness even with out a flash
  • Very bright flash when needed
  • Ability to manually set the shutter speed or prioritize between aperture or shutter speed
  • Ability to manually set the point of foucus
  • Touch screen
  • Many built in photo filters
  •  Night time photos with no flash take very time and will likely blur badly if you don't use a tripod, but this would be the case with any camera capable of taking a photo a night

Overall I would highly recommend this camera to scrapbooker.  I took these photos with our new camera.

Free Disney Scrapbook Supplies

Did the title get your attention?  Since when did you see free Disney scrapbook supplies?   I know that I never see them.

What I do see from time to time is Disney mailings that I can cut apart to get make my own free Disney scrapbook accessories from.  I'm not sure how Susy and I got on the Disney mailing list.  We have been on it for years.  However, if I had to guess I would say it's because we asked for a free Disney vacation DVD 10 years ago.

I would love to share the pictures of all the great characters I cut out.  Unfortunately, we all know Disney has an army of lawyers so out of fear I can't share them.  Trust that I got 7 high gloss Disney characters some with metallic parts and all super cute and around 6 inches tall.

I'm not sure if I can even legally show you projects I make with the characters.  All that said it's worth signing up for the mailing list.

I hope this little tip helps you save some money

Trash to Treasure Handmade Spring is in the Air Card

I love how this card turned out.  For the window I used stamp packaging that was on it's way to the trash.  The rest of this card was made of small bit's of paper from my scrap pile.

The inside of the card has some interesting stories to it.  First off I want to note the scalloped center.  That little bit of paper is the only thing holding the two halves of the card together.  In the past I've always had enough paper to at least fold and glue the other half of my card to, but in this case I didn't and had to get creative.  However, I really like the look and find that it allows the card to fold flatter than the traditional methods I usually use.

The other thing I want to mention is the flowers.  I think they look very cute, but they have a purpose.  The blue paper was to small cover the half of the card I wanted to put it on.  To solve the problem instead of cutting out the frame I cut the paper into 4 parts and glued it around the frame.  This made a new problem now you could see the places where I had glued the papers together not to mention several small surface tears.  I punched some flowers and glued them over the problem areas to hide them.

I hope this inspires you to make something out of those little bits that you might have thrown away otherwise.

When you do need scrapbook supplies don't forget to stop by our store stock up and save.

Upscaled Scrapbook Frame

The other day Susy, my wife, was organizing our stamps.  The process basically involved taking the stamps out of their original packaging and putting them in a new package.  When I found out she was going to toss the old packaging I asked for it.

Next I picked out a cute frame and cut it out.

stamp packaging frame

I thought it would be a simple fun project. I wanted to cut out two frames.  One frame I wanted to make slightly larger than the printed frame and the other slightly smaller.  Next, I was going to sew the two frames to stamp packaging frame.  Just like that I thought I would have a beautiful and unique frame.

OK you might have guessed it wasn't simple at all.  First came the problem of cutting the frames.   I found cutting two frames to the exact size I wanted to be extremely hard and in the end I would say I failed.  I mean it doesn't look bad, but it's not an exact match.  Then I was to find there wasn't enough  plastic on the inside of the frame to sew to.  The inside frame is only attached to the other two by the 4 corner stitches and a little bit of glue.

When I finished here is what it looked like

I'm going to try something different with the stamp packaging tomorrow.

How to make Parts of your photo color with the rest Black and White

It's easy to make parts of your your photo color and leave the rest black and white.  I made up a technique to do this and had a finished photo in less than 30 minutes.

how to make a photo that is part color and part black and white

Here is the original photo I started with

cat with mouse toy

Next I made a duplicate photo in black in white

black and white photo of cat with mouse toy

For the next step I went in GIMP (a free photo editing and drawing software) and loaded my color photo.  I added an alpha channel with this path
layers>transparencies>add alpha channel

After adding an alpha channel I took out the eraser tool and erased everything that I wanted to turn Black&White.  If you are using gimp you should see a checkerboard pattern left after you erase.  When I was done I saved the file.

Next, I used Gimp to open my black and white photo.  I clicked open is layers and clicked on the file name of my picture above with only the cat and his toy.  The program puts that picture on top of your black&white picture and you have a competed photo that is ready to develop and scrapbook.

If you have any questions about how to do this let me know and I'll do my best to answer them.

Turning your Photo into a Drawing

I see a lot of very cool photos in scrapbooking blogs.  However, when I take pictures I tend to be more of a point and shoot kind of guy.  I'm slowly trying to change that by learning new techniques and tips for taking good photos.

I recently came across a YouTube tutorial for turning a photo into a drawing using gimp.

I used the video to turn this photo

I'm not going to pretend that my first try at this technique came out perfect, but I'm sure I will get better with practice.

I hope this post inspires you to do try creative with the photos you plan to scrapbook.

I hope you like our latest free digi stamp.  I drew him by hand and than turned that image into a stamp.

Here is a colored example of this digi.  I had a lot of trouble with my markers bleeding because I used cheap paper.  I'm not all that happy with my colored example, but I still really like the digi and hope you do also.
